Great Food Club Awards

Some awards are worth more than others. We think The Great Food Club has a unique approach to nominations which makes becoming a finalist rather special.

The public must vote simply for their favourite foodie business of the year. Restaurant, baker, pub, producer – whatever it is you have to pick only one. This means that every vote represents someone who you have really impressed!

The votes are then compiled into a series of logical categories. From this, the finalists are judged independently. There’s (hopefully) no politics. Just a recommendation from a happy customer, followed by an assessment of quality.

Thirst Media are delighted to see a number of businesses that we have worked with on this year’s shortlist. We offer our congratulations to the following businesses. They have clearly built a loyal customer base!

Rothley Wine Estate

Currently Leicestershire’s only commercial vineyard. The vineyard run tours of the vineyard with tastings about once a month. The demand is great. About 250 guests per year attend them. Their wines are widely decorated for their quality at international, national and regional level. Rothley Wines were recently highly praised live on Saturday Kitchen by Leics chef Marianne Lumb.

Hic!

Bisbrooke Artisans

The new kids on the block, this dynamic duo are passionate about true sourdough. Baking out of their tiny Rutland cottage kitchen, demand has outstripped supply. They are currently in the final stages of a successful crowdfunding campaign to upgrade their oven, move to larger premises and to help them deliver sourdough workshops which will help to perpetuate this ancient craft.

Delicious!

Wigston Fields News & Deli

#NotJustACornerShop. Surprisingly, this local shop was just another regular newsagent a couple of months ago. It has turned into a beacon for small food & drink producers in the region. A hub for the local community, with iniatives supporting local charities and foodbanks, this is a business that really gives back. Plus weekly producer showcases treat customers to a chance to meet the makers firsthand. A truly unique business.

The announcement of winners will be made in November. Good luck to all the finalists! We look forward to seeing who makes the grade. Plus reading the finalist list is a great way to discover new places to visit.
