A new initiative by the Leicester BID launched yesterday. The Independent Leicester campaign and attendant website is designed to showcase the very best small businesses Leicester has to offer.
The initiative is aimed at helping residents and visitors to the city to discover the very best of the hidden gems that Leicester has. The campaign is focused on the BID area, which is at the very heart of the city centre. However, there is some flexibility for other businesses to be included.
The idea, translated through window stickers, marketing campaigns and promotions, is to give small business owners a shared voice, to amplify their call to customers. By pooling all of our voices, as a community, we become stronger.
A whole range of industries are welcome within the remit. Of course there is a strong focus on public facing enterprises like restaurants, cafes and entertainment venues. However, it is likely that services and even B2B businesses will be included in the directory in due course.

Check out the website and support Leicester’s local community! The Guardian has reported that the number of empty shops in the UK is at its highest for 5 years. While some of this can be accounted for by the collapse of large chain retailers, there is a small current of independents struggling for custom. These are people who are dedicated and passionate about quality and service. They are major local employers and often reinvest much of the money they make into the local economy. Supporting independents is supporting your community and your city.
